A strong start for a bright future
Kindergarteners became mini-scientists as they whipped up a cool experiment—making ice cream in a bag! Students learned how salt and ice lower temperatures to freeze ingredients, watching liquid milk turn into a tasty solid right before their eyes. After shaking their bags with lots of enthusiasm and energy, everyone enjoyed eating their delicious scientific creations!
Kindergarten
Pre-First had a busy and exciting month full of hands-on learning! The students loved diving into our apple science unit, exploring and experimenting together. They also fully embraced Homecoming dress-up days, showing off their school spirit throughout a fun and action-packed month!
Pre-First
First-grade mathematicians wrapped up their number sense unit in style! Students practiced writing and spelling their number words all around the classroom—all while rocking their 50s-themed outfits for Homecoming dress-up day.

Second graders turned sweet treats into math concepts during a hands-on fraction lesson using M&Ms! Students sorted their candy by color and other categories to determine the fraction represented by each group. They took their learning a step further with higher-level reasoning, exploring whether they could simplify their original fractions into smaller equivalent ones. This engaging activity bridged concrete modeling with abstract math, showing students how different fractions can represent the exact same quantity.

Third grade students are spending a few minutes each day practicing and learning their multiplication facts. We will continue working on these facts until students can recall them instantly and confidently!
To make this process fun and motivating, our class will use a program called Kicking It Math! The program introduces students to just a few facts and their reverses at each level. This allows each student to work at his or her own pace to master each set of facts.
Students will have an opportunity each day to demonstrate their mastery by taking a short quiz. After passing four quizzes, students will earn a belt token to display on their locker. They will continue working their way through the levels until they become a “Black Belt” in multiplication! Our class goal is for everyone to become a Black Belt by the end of the first semester!

Fourth
Fourth-grade students stepped back in time during our exciting “Gone to Texas” field trip! At the International Cultural Center, students worked in country groups to explore why immigrants left their homelands, what drew them to Texas, and where they ultimately settled. Using large floor maps to examine these push-and-pull factors, students also made thoughtful decisions about the two belongings they would pack for their journey. Next, at the National Ranching Heritage Center, they explored the Hedwig’s Hill Dogtrot House and Los Corralitos while learning about German settlers, Spanish ranching traditions, vaqueros, and daily life in early Texas. To cap off the day, students created beautiful plein-air watercolor paintings inspired by their historic surroundings.
Back on campus, a group of our 4th-grade girls took special initiative during morning break to clean up confetti scattered around school. What a wonderful example of kindness, teamwork, and pride in our school community!
